Assegai Marine - an Australian legend

Take the best of the classic custom built boats from the States. Then with local knowledge, improve on them further and you're starting to come close to an Assegai.

Without exaggeration, Assegai has earned legend status on Australia's east coast among the top Australian skippers over the last ten years.

Hand built by the most uncompromising craftsmen, the vessels are a reflection of the passion and unwillingness to compromise of Barry Martin, designer and builder - and are a symbol of the way all things should be created.

Our brief to Barry was simple...

"Build the best liveaboard sports fishing vessel ever to fish the Great Barrier Reef!"

...and the result is Shaka!

At 60 foot and powered by twin 1500 HP MTU engines, Shaka has a top speed of 42 knots, a cruising speed of 32 knots and a range of 865 nautical miles at 20 knots.

She was purpose designed to fish the 150-mile length of the Great Barrier Reef grounds like no other, with the speed to get to the bite, the seaworthiness to fish comfortably in the frequent rough conditions outside the reef and the flexibility to avoid mothership constraints.

And of course, to provide a standard of luxury accommodation commensurate with her sports fishing prowess.

She makes extended live aboards a pleasure in even the most exotic locations.
